End-of-Semester Gathering and Study Abroad Experience Sharing! End-of-Semester Gathering and Study Abroad Experience Sharing!

On July 31, 2026, the Gu Laboratory held an end-of-semester gathering to celebrate the completion of the first half of the academic year. While enjoying Subway sandwiches and other food together, the laboratory members shared a relaxing and enjoyable time. Zhang introduced his exchange experience and research life in Canada, while Fujii shared stories from his studies in Denmark. Their presentations offered fascinating insights into research and daily life abroad, accompanied by many impressive photographs that left everyone amazed by Zhang’s photography skills. Fujii’s story about making his own Jiro-style ramen during his stay also brought plenty of excitement and laughter! Thank you to all the laboratory members for your dedication and hard work in research and study over the past six months. We look forward to continuing to learn from one another and making the rest of the academic year equally productive and enjoyable!

On May 19, 2026, we held a welcome party for the new B4 and M1 students, as well as a farewell party for Rahma. The laboratory members enjoyed spending time together over food, warmly welcoming our new members and reflecting on the memories we shared with Rahma. Although her time with us was brief, we sincerely appreciate the wonderful moments we spent together. We wish Rahma all the best in her future endeavors and look forward to meeting her again someday!

NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) Visit Held! NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) Visit Held!

On March 18, 2025, we welcomed faculty members from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) to the Institute of Science Tokyo for an academic exchange. During the visit, we introduced our university and research facilities and held presentations and discussions on our respective research activities and future research topics. Sharing different academic perspectives and research environments provided a valuable opportunity to gain new insights and explore possibilities for future collaboration. After the academic sessions, we continued the exchange over dinner, where we discussed not only research but also university life and cultural experiences. The visit further strengthened our relationship with the faculty members from NTNU.

In December 2024, students from the Gu Laboratory attended the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, where they presented their research findings. During the conference, they attended a wide range of presentations in industrial engineering and engineering management and exchanged ideas with researchers and students from around the world. Presenting their work in an international setting and receiving feedback from diverse perspectives provided a valuable opportunity for academic growth. During the peak of summer's heat, we held a delightful Suika-Wari Event that became the highlight of our season. Under the bright sun, we gathered with anticipation, each taking turns to blindfoldedly swing and strike at the poised watermelon. Laughter and cheers filled the air as each attempt brought us closer to the sweet reward. When the watermelon finally split, revealing its juicy heart, everyone indulged in the refreshing slices. It was a cherished moment that temporarily whisked us away from the summer heat, leaving us with sweet, sticky smiles and cool relief.

In June 2024, Professor Gu attended the NINJAS4CARE Workshop in Trondheim, Norway, where she presented her research. The workshop brought together researchers from Norway, China, Japan, and South Korea to share their studies and initiatives aimed at developing smart, safe, and sustainable healthcare. Professor Gu introduced her research and discussed possibilities for future international collaboration with the participating researchers.
